VersaLogic Tiger PC/104-Plus SBC with Intel® Atom™ Z5xx (Menlow XL) Processor

vl_epm-24_webVersaLogic Corp., an Oregon-based embedded computer company, today announced the Tiger, a PC/104-Plus single board computer (SBC) featuring great performance, very low power consumption, and fanless operation.

The Tiger takes advantage of Intel's Atom Z5xx (Menlow XL) processor, which was designed specifically for embedded applications. Based upon Intel's 45 nm hi-k Metal Gate Silicon technology, the Z5xx series Atom chip offers high performance, industrial temperature (-40º to +85ºC) operation and radically reduced power requirements. Its advanced power management capabilities include the new C6 state (Deep Power Down Technology) and Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® technology.

Leveraging the high performance/low power capabilities of the Atom Z5xx and its US15WP(T) chipset, the Tiger is an ideal choice for space, weight, and power (SWaP) constrained embedded applications. Based on the industry standard PC/104-Plus form factor, this compact and rugged SBC is an excellent solution for industrial, energy, defense/aerospace, medical, and robotics applications where a small footprint, low power draw (6W typical), and fanless operation are crucial design factors.

The Tiger was designed for embedded environments requiring high performance, low power consumption, and passive cooling," said Len Crane, President of VersaLogic. "The Tiger's PC/104-Plus design delivers plenty of I/O plus all the best features of the Intel Atom processor in a very compact, industry standard SBC."

Available in both a 1.6 GHz commercial temperature (0º to +60ºC) version and a 1.33 GHz industrial temperature (-40º to +85ºC) version, the rugged Tiger board meets MIL-STD-202G specifications for mechanical shock and vibration for use in harsh environments.

Standard on-board features include a gigabit Ethernet port with network boot capability, SO-DIMM socket for up to 2 GB DDR2 RAM, seven USB 2.0 ports, four serial ports, IDE controller with support for two devices, HD audio, and a Disk on Module (DOM) socket for removable flash storage. Video features include advanced 3D graphics, high-definition video, integrated LVDS, and optional analog VGA support. Industry standard PC/104-Plus expansion provides plug-in access to a wide variety of PC/104 and PC/104-Plus expansion modules from numerous vendors. The SPX expansion interface provides low-cost plug-in expansion for additional analog, digital, and CANbus I/O.

The Tiger features Phoenix Technologies’ Embedded BIOS® with OEM enhancements. The field-reprogrammable BIOS supports custom defaults and the Firmbase™ software developers kit (SDK) for security, remote/network booting, and other application functions. ACPI 2.0 support provides advanced power management capabilities. Tiger is compatible with a variety of popular x86 operating systems, including Windows, Windows Embedded, Linux, VxWorks, and QNX.

This new product includes VersaLogic's 5+ year production life guarantee and is customizable, even in low OEM quantities. Customization options include conformal coating, revision locks, custom labeling, customized testing and screening, connector changes, and additional services.

The Tiger SBC will be available from stock starting in May of 2011.

EDT announces the next generation of Camera Link boards for PCI Express

edt_pe4dva_foxEDT, Inc. has announced it's new line of Camera Link boards for PCI Express, including x4 and x8 framegrabbers, an x4 fiberoptic input framegrabber, and an x8 PCI Express simulator.

The DVa series boards feature improved performance, power over camera link (POCL™), and optional memory. Our first ever FOX board for PCI Express is compatible with EDT's RCX C-Link camera link to fiber converters which shatter the Camera Link distance barrier, providing up to 10 Kilometers of distance between the camera and host computer.

The new Camera Link 4 and 8 lane framegrabbers and 8 lane simulator are drop-in replacements for the existing (DV series) boards, which are being phased out of production. That means that applications that now work with EDT's PCIe4 DV C-Link, PCIe8 DV C-Link, and PCIe8 DV CLS will work without modification with the new DVa versions, the PCIe4 DVa C-Link, PCIe8 DVa C-Link, and PCIe8 DV CLS. The PCIe8 DVa FOX is a new product and requires the latest (5.1.2.1 or newer) driver package.

All boards in the DVa product line come with a full software development kit, a common application programming interface, and engineer-to-engineer support.

For details on the x8 framegrabber, see the PCIe8 DVa C-Link product page
For details on the x4 framegrabber, see the PCIe4 DVa C-Link product page
For details on the x4 fiberoptic framegrabber, see the PCIe4 DVa FOX product page
For details on the x8 simulator, see the PCIe8 DVa CLS product page
